Rebel Moon 3: Expected Release Date, Cast Details, and All the Latest Information

Rebel Moon 3

While Netflix has yet to confirm Rebel Moon 3, fans can look forward to more content from the Rebel Moon universe this year. The first two installments of the series will each receive a director’s cut, set to release on August 2nd. Although this doesn’t bring us a new film, it promises additional footage and fresh perspectives.

Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scargiver made a strong debut on Netflix’s most-watched movies list, but it didn’t quite make it into the all-time top 10. It’s uncertain whether this performance will lead to the greenlighting of further sequels. Zack Snyder, however, is already planning for Rebel Moon 3 and beyond.

“We’re definitely working on Part Three. We have a clear vision of where we’re heading,” Snyder revealed to Forbes. He also mentioned to Radio Times that there might be four to six movies in total, depending on how the stories are split.

“We’ve developed the story and written a treatment, so we’ll see how it progresses,” Snyder added. With that in mind, here’s a rundown of what we know about a potential Rebel Moon 3.

Rebel Moon 3 Release Date: When Can We Expect It?

As of mid-2024, Netflix has not officially confirmed Rebel Moon 3, so an exact release date remains unannounced. The gap between the first two Rebel Moon films was just four months, but a third installment might take longer. Snyder mentioned he’s not planning to film the next installment immediately.

“We’re waiting for the release of the director’s cuts and then I’ll likely work on another project before deciding on the future of Rebel Moon,” Snyder told GamesRadar+. He hinted that his next project might not be Army of the Dead 2, but something entirely different.

According to co-writer Kurt Johnstad, Snyder has already started on the script for the third film, having completed about 30 pages. This suggests that filming for Rebel Moon 3 might not begin until at least 2025, with a possible release date in 2026 if it gets the green light.

In the meantime, the director’s cuts of the first two films will be available on Netflix starting August 2, with updated titles:

  • Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood
  • Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness

Rebel Moon 3 Cast: Who Might Return?

Although Rebel Moon 3 hasn’t been officially announced, we can make some educated guesses about the cast. All surviving characters from Rebel Moon 2 are likely to return, including Sofia Boutella as Kora, Djimon Hounsou as Titus, Staz Nair as Tarak, Elise Duffy as Milius, and Cleopatra Coleman as Devra Bloodaxe.

Boutella has expressed interest in returning, though she has not yet discussed it with Snyder: “It would be exciting to work with Zack again because we all enjoy being part of this project.”

Unfortunately, characters played by Michiel Huisman and Doona Bae, who died in the previous film, are unlikely to return unless featured in flashbacks.

Anthony Hopkins is expected to reprise his role as Jimmy, and characters like Sam (Charlotte Maggi) and Aris (Sky Yang) will likely make a return. On the antagonist side, Fra Fee should be back as Regent Balisarius. Although Ed Skrein’s Atticus Noble may not return, his previous near-death might leave the door open for a possible comeback.

Rebel Moon 3 Plot: What Could We See Next?

The conclusion of Rebel Moon 2 revealed that Princess Issa is alive and in hiding, setting the stage for the rebels to pursue her and continue their fight against the Motherworld. The third installment will likely focus on locating Issa and exploring how the victory at Veldt can inspire a coalition of planets.

Snyder has hinted at an intriguing plotline: “Balisarius is back on the Motherworld, and Issa is in hiding. The Order of 12 was nearly wiped out except for Bartholomew. We might track them down and use our victory to rally support from planets on the brink of rebellion.”

There might also be more insights into the villains’ backstories. Snyder teased that future films could delve deeper into Balisarius’s history, as suggested by Fra Fee.

Rebel Moon 3 Trailer: Any Footage Yet?

Currently, there is no footage available for Rebel Moon 3 as it hasn’t been confirmed or filmed yet. Fans can look forward to the director’s cuts of the first two films releasing in August for a fresh look at the Rebel Moon universe.
